10 Things to Change If You Want to Be Truly Happy

Despite countless attempts, no one has yet found a universal formula for happiness. However, here are 10 things that will surely bring you a few steps closer to it.

Believe more in the good!

Have you noticed how sometimes you go outside in a bad mood and everything you see seems gray and ugly—the streets, the buildings, even people’s faces—and on other days everything looks beautiful and makes you smile?
The world is the way it is, but it’s up to you how you perceive it. Of course, we can't close our eyes to evil, poverty, or death, but a bit of optimism certainly won't hurt.

Live in the present moment!

You’ll find this rule in every article about how to live a happier life. The reason it’s so often repeated is not a lack of imagination from the authors—it’s because if you're constantly analyzing your past or fearing your future, you have no time or energy left to live. After all, life only ever happens here and now. Everything else is memory or imagination.

Smile!

Another cliché, but one backed by science. Smiling does much more than just show others you're kind or enjoying something. It's proven that laughter helps release endorphins, benefits the skin, the heart, and the abdominal muscles.
So spend more time with funny people, tell jokes, watch a good comedy, or just smile.

Forget the worry!

Buried under tasks and responsibilities, we often fall into states of stress and tension. It’s good to be responsible, but constant worry about whether you’ll manage actually drains the energy you need to get things done.
Instead, roll up your sleeves, organize your problems, and try to solve them. You’ll either succeed or face a problem that simply can’t be solved—and in that case, worrying won’t help.

Believe in yourself!

Humans are social creatures, and that comes with consequences—we must consider the people around us. The problem arises when we lose our authenticity in trying to live up to others’ expectations.
Believe in yourself—you know best who you are. Take responsibility for who you want to become. Sure, not everyone will like you, but so what?

Make time for yourself!

You likely play many roles—worker, student, parent, sibling, spouse—and each requires time, energy, and dedication. But energy comes not just from food and sleep, but also from moments of joy.
Think about what makes you truly happy. Maybe it’s swimming, hiking, or building model airplanes.
Whatever it is, make time for it. Put it in your schedule the same way you do your work tasks—because how you work is directly linked to how you feel.

Be around positive people!

There’s wisdom in the old saying: “You become like those you spend time with.” Surround yourself with happy people, and you’ll find yourself smiling more often.

Take care of yourself!

Think about what you eat—if you're overdoing fatty or processed foods, eating too much sugar or additives, you’re probably not making your stomach—or yourself—very happy.
Healthy people are more cheerful and content. Take care of yourself. If you’re not sure how, join one of our courses. Our instructors will teach you many ways to handle challenges and stress.

Don’t try to be happy all the time!

Yes, it may sound absurd, but striving too hard for happiness doesn’t actually make us happier. Why? Because the world isn’t perfect, and neither are we.
We can't always be satisfied with ourselves or with everything around us. So do your best, and let the rest go.
